Week Commencing 29 October 2012

Training on Monday 29 October : most people did a 10k-ish walk concentrating on technique.

Training on Wednesday 31st : hoping for a track session, with drills and  technical repetitions. But check the weather forecast from the link on the right – if it as bad as this suggests we may go on the road instead, so bring bright as well as waterproof clothing.

Racing : Two options. On Saturday, there is a 7 mile race at Monks Hill, Surrey. Details can be found on the fixtures page here. Sunday sees the second meeting in the Midland Winter League series, in Coventry, with senior races at 5k and 10k. Details here.

More about Sunday at Birmingham

“The day is 10.30 – 4.30 (latest) with lunch. The morning is technical walking sessions with mini races followed by lunch. afternoon is going to be seminars, Q&A sessions using video technology and coaches giving feedback. For anyone wanting to take part in the officials taster sessions same times but it will focus on giving basic advice and support for recording, timekeeping and judging.”

It’s not often we get the National Coach available for a day within an hour and a half’s drive, but of course it has to be the same day as the Abingdon Marathon. Nevertheless recommended for anyone not officiating.

Training with Aldershot

I’ve had an invitation from Verity Snook, the racewalk coach at Aldershot, Farnham and District AC, for us to join their Sunday morning training sessions any time that suits us. They meet at the Rushmoor Arena in Aldershot which is about 1h 20m drive from Oxford (and obviously a bit less from Abingdon or Newbury). They meet at 10 am for about 2 hours. Who wants to suggest a date ?
