Recent ‘Race Walking Record’s

Just realised that I haven’t made the RWRs for February, March and April available through this site, though they are of course available elsewhere. Among the usual results, reports and fixture lists the highlights probably are

– the interviews with Robbie Heffernan and the Irish team manager Patrick McGonagle on Robbie’s victory in last year’s 50km in the Moscow World Championships – in the February issue

– report from the Lugano races where young British walkers did so well in the March issue

– appreciation of the legendary coach Jerzy Hausleber who transformed walking in the 70’s, also in the March issue

– Steve Taylor on being Chief Judge at the Olympics in the April issue

Week Commencing 26 May

Well done all in the 2000m at Tilsley Park last Monday – especially Suzanne, a new PB in 11m 30s !

Training on Monday 26 May : 10k-ish, steady or as a fartlek.

Wednesday 28 May : Tempo session on laps of the estate.

Come 15 minutes early, to do some drills and dynamic mobility before the session. If you don’t know what drills to do, ask me!

Beginners’ and technique sessions also available – please let me know beforehand.

Racing next weekend : on Saturday, the annual highly sociable 5 mile race in Moulton, Suffolk, at  1 pm. Details in the Enfield Walker. Two possibilities on Sunday : a 3000m track race in the Vets AC series, at Ewell, South London; and the Midlands Track Championships at Tamworth, with 5k and 10k races for seniors. Details here. Almost certainly, guests will be welcome.

Weekend training : If not racing, we should do a distance session. Anyone want to suggest anything ?

Week Commencing 19 May

Training on Monday 19 May : After the Masters League race (see below), I suggest an easy session as a warmdown for those who have raced and who haven’t got commitments to any other event in the Masters League : could be taken as a fartlek for those who haven’t raced. Perhaps the 8k Sunningwell reoute ?

Wednesday 21 May : a 10k-ish session done steady or as a fartlek.

Racing Monday 19 May : 2000m race in the Southern Masters League, at Tilsley Park, at 6:30 pm. Open to guests if you’re not representing one of the competing clubs. Arrive in good time to make sure you get a good warmup as well as your number.

No racing anywhere close this weekend (as the County Championships continue).

Weekend training : We should do a distance session. Anyone want to suggest anything ?
