Suggested training this week : Monday 27 April : ‘Top Speed‘ session for members of Abingdon AC, at the Radley track again. Please come at 6:20/6:25, ready to start at 6:30 as this will be a short session.

Wednesday 22nd : tempo session on laps of the estate, from  Tilsley Park. Don’t forget to come at 6:30 for warmup and drills if you can make it.

Due to being in London for work this week, I’ll not be at the sessions, but you remember how to do them.

Distance session at the weekend : if not racing, we should do one. Anyone want to make a suggestion ?

Racing : Masters Leagues and County Championships (where guests can often compete) and weekday evening races are now starting. There’s no walk in the local Masters League event at Horspath on 4 May. However there are in the Southern Masters League meeting at Lee Valley tomorrow (27th), and the Midland Vets League meetings at various venues on Wednesday. At 6:45pm on Wednesday there is also a 10,000m track race at Millennium Stadium, Battersea Park, which incorporates championships for Surrey, Middlesex, Hertfordshire and the Veterans AC. On Bank Holiday Monday there are the Hertfordshire 3000m Championships at Stevenage, which is an open race, at 12:30, and the hilly Pednor 5 Miles, at Chesham at 5 pm.

If you’re not a member of Abingdon, please either contact me (phone/text/email) beforehand, or arrive at Radley at 6:20-6:25 as above. I’m hoping that you can take part in the session for a small contribution to Abingdon’s costs, or alternatively I’ll suggest a different session.

Racing at the weekend : The BMAF 20k Championships take place at Downham Market, Suffolk, at 11 am on Saturday. Supporting 10k and 5k event too, details here.

Suggested training this week : Monday 13 April : ‘Top Speed‘ session for members of Abingdon AC, at the Radley track again, at OX14 2HR. Abingdon have booked this for the use of their own members, from 6:30 to 8:00. Please come at 6:20/6:25, ready to start at 6:30 as this will be a short session. You will find a car park if you take the right-hand option on entering Radley College, and turn right just before the arch, and drive round the left-hand side of the first car park til you get to the one by the track and the tennis courts. Racing at the weekend : The RWA 20k Championships take place at Hillingdon at 2:15 on Saturday, details here. The Southern RWA Championships are included in the same race. Closing date for entries is MONDAY 13 April.

International : great results for Steve Allen, Sophie Ward, Callum Wilkinson, Tom Partington and Bristol-based Tatyana Gabellone, and some OK results for others, in the international event at Podebrady last weekend. Full results here. Next weekend’s major international event is at Rio Major in Portugal but some Brits are guesting in the German Championships.

Suggested training this week : Monday 6 April : due to the need to start track work, and the closure of Tilsley Park for repairs this month, it’s a bit complicated. Please read carefully :

For MEMBERS OF ABINGDON AC : Abingdon have booked the Radley track, at OX14 2HR, for the use of their own members, from 6:30 to 8:00. Please come at 6:20/6:25, ready to start at 6:30 as this will be a short session. You will find a car park if you take the right-hand option on entering Radley College, and turn right just before the arch. It’s then a short walk to the track. Racing at the weekend : There’s a 5000m track race at Lewes in Sussex, at 2 pm on Saturday.

International : on Saturday, several British athletes are racing at the EAA meeting in Podebrady, Czech Republic, seeking qualifying times for various events. Website (in Czech) is here. No details of TV coverage yet but when available they will be posted on this site.
