Exciting but mixed day on The Mall on Sunday – no luck for Tom or Dom, solid work from Callum and Bethan, gutsy work from Gemma but a break in her string of PBs over 20k.

Training during the week :  on  Monday, 10k-ish fartlek. On Wednesday, threshold session on laps of the estate. Plus beginners sessions on the track if required – normal track fee will apply.

Training at the weekend : if not racing, should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  On Saturday at Crystal Palace, the SEAA T&F Championships over 5000m. You will need to have entered by now, and if you have, you have probably been sent the timetable.

Racing during the week : Nothing anywhere close.

World Championships Week

Training during the week :  on  Monday, 10k-ish fartlek or recovery. Plus beginners sessions on the track if required. On Wednesday, track session for everyone – normal track fee will apply.

Training at the weekend : if not racing (you will know whether this means you), should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  No open races because of course on Sunday, the walks events in the IAAF World Championships take place in The Mall, London. 50k (men and women) starts at 7:45 am, 20k women (with Oxfordshire interest of course) starts at 12:20, 20k men (where there is possibly Britain’s best medal chance) at 2:20 pm. Free to spectators.

Racing during the week : on Wednesday at mid-day, the ‘Enfield Friendship Walks’ organised by Ron Wallwork to tie in with the World Championships. Races of 1 mile, 3 miles and 5 miles, at Queen Elizabeth II stadium, Donkey Lane, Enfield. Full details on the Enfield League website.

Leeds2017

Woohoo ! Oxfordshire’s Gemma Bridge now national 20k champion after winning the race in Leeds, and now awaiting confirmation of her place in the World Championships in London in August !

Training during the week :  on  Monday, 10k-ish fartlek, plus beginners sessions on the track if required.On Wednesday, track session for everybody with warmups, drills and short sprints. Normal track fee applies.

Training at the weekend : if not racing, should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  No open races, but a few if you are invited, selected, eligible or go to watch. On Sunday morning, the 5000m race in the British Athletics Championships & Trials at Alexander Stadium. Also on Sunday, the Southern Counties Inter-Area match at Kingsmeadow, Surrey, but no sign yet that Oxfordshire are sending a team. And, the BMAF Inter-Area Walks at Solihull. You will know distances and timetable if you have been selected.

Racing during the week : On Wednesday at 7:30 pm, a 4 mile race at Norman Park, Bromley, organised by Surrey Walking Club.

2017 National 20k Championships, Leeds, Sunday 25 June

This year’s British Grand Prix of Race Walking has been announced, including the National 20k Championships for the RWA, British Athletics, England Athletics and Welsh Athletics, and it’s also the selection race for the World Championships in August.

There are also 10k, 5k and 3k races. Entry standards apply but are not all desperately challenging ! The event starts at 9:30, so there’s a good chance it will mean an overnight stay.

Week commencing 15 May 2017

Training during the week :  on  Monday, extended warmdown session after the Masters’ League races at Horspath, for anyone that doesn’t have further events or officiating to do. On Wednesday, 10k fartlek. Plus, beginner’s sessions on the track.

Training at the weekend : should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  nothing close.

Racing during the week : don’t forget the SCVAC League match at Horspath, Oxford tonight (Monday) – NOT at Tilsley Park as previously advised. Men’s 2000m at 6:30, women’s 2000m at 6:50. Be there in plenty of time to warm up. Guests allowed, but you may need additional time to get your number.

International : on Sunday there is the European Cup of Race Walking in Podebrady, Czech Republic. A strong British team, including of course Oxfordshire’s Gemma Bridge. Event website here but no news yet of live coverage, if there is any details will be posted on this site.
