Training during the week :  on Monday, an 8k-ish extended warmdown following the Masters League race, for those not involved in any other events in the match. On Wednesday, up to a 10k-ish session, easy or fartlek, plus beginners’ sessions on the track, if required.

Training at the weekend : Should do a session if not racing, let’s discuss what is appropriate.

Racing during the week : Busy! On Monday, as all will be aware, there’s the 2000m races in the Southern Masters League Western Division meeting at Tilsley Park. Men race at 6:30, women will have been told when their race is. On Tuesday at 7 pm, a 5-mile race in the Veterans’ AC series at Battersea Park. On Wednesday at 1:35, 5k and 10k races in the Police and Civil Service championships and match, at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford – some from the county will be involved.

Racing at the weekend :  The big domestic race is the RWA / British Athletics / Inter-Counties 10k championships at Coventry on Sunday with supporting junior events. Details here, but there’s a time standard for the 10k and the official closing date has already passed.

The European Masters Non-Stadia Championship races are on in Alicante, Spain, with 10k races on Friday and 20k (for women) and 30k (for men) races on Saturday. Our best wishes to all our friends competing of course ! Comprehensive reports usually appear after the races on Facebook.

Training during the week :  on Monday, a sociable 7-8k for those not involved in the Southern Vets League fixture. On Wednesday, threshold session on laps of the estate. Plus beginners’ sessions on the track, if required.

Training at the weekend : Should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the Bank Holiday weekend :  On Saturday at 12:00, there’s a meeting over various distances at Lewes, Sussex. On Monday at 12:30, the Hertfordshire Track and Field Championships at Stevenage, which is an open race. On Monday at 5 pm, the hilly Pednor 5 mile race at Chesham – for the Bucks 5 mile Championship and a counter for the Enfield League. Details here.

International : the weekend sees the IAAF Race Walking World Cup in Taicang, China, with Gemma featuring in the GB team. GB athletes have only been selected for the senior 20k races, which are at 9:30 our time on Saturday morning for the women, and 3:10 on Sunday morning for the men. Live coverage looks likely on the IAAF YouTube channel .

Commonwealth Games : a measured race in hot conditions brought City’s Gemma 5th place in the 20k on Sunday !

Training during the week :  on Monday, what with illness, injuries, work and family duties, I’m not expecting anyone to be able to train. Please contact me if you want a session. On Wednesday, track session if the weather is good enough, and it looks like it will be the best day of the week. Otherwise, probably a threshold session on laps of the estate.

Training at the weekend : Should do a daylight distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  On Saturday at 1pm, the Cecil Gittins Memorial meeting at Gravesend Cycle Track, with 5k, 10k and 15k options. Also counts for the Enfield League. Details here. On Sunday at mid-day, the Midlands track championships over 10000m – guests will probably be welcome.

Training during the week :  on Bank Holiday Monday, 10k-ish fartlek. No announcement on Tilsley Park’s website or Facebook page, but the site will probably be closed, so park in Hanson Road. On Wednesday, probably a threshold session on laps of the estate. Track session if the weather is good enough, but that doesn’t look likely at the moment.

Training at the weekend : Should do a daylight distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  None within reasonable travelling distance.

Racing during the week : The open meeting at Tonbridge School, Kent, at 10:45 on Easter Monday.

Commonweath Games : the men’s 20k walk is scheduled for 10 pm our time on Saturday 7 April, with the  women’s 20k at 15 minutes past midnight on the 8th. The BBC1 overnight coverage starts at 5 minutes to midnight but it’s not clear what they’ll be showing.

Training during the week :  on Monday, 10k-ish fartlek. Maybe a Radley Lakes loop if it’s reasonably dry? On Wednesday, threshold session on laps of the estate.

Training at the weekend : Should do a daylight distance session. Any suggestions ? (FYI, there’s no Good Friday Walk advertised on the Radley village website this year.)

Racing over Easter weekend :  The only event in the South is the open meeting at Tonbridge School, Kent, at 10:45 on Easter Monday.

Dominic and Daniel King have been selected by BA for a British team in this event, which is the trial race for the European Championships in Berlin later in the year. Also, a women’s 50k which hasn’t been included before with a number of names attempting the distance for the first time. YouTube Live coverage is here, I can’t see an English language website but the event usually starts around 8 am our time.
