Week commencing 15 July 2019

Congratulations to Judy and Noel, winning their age groups in a difficult race in the British Masters 20k Championships yesterday ! (Not the world’s best photos I’m afraid.)

Training this week : on Monday, fartlek or easy after yesterday’s racing, 8 or 10k. On Wednesday, we’ll do road intervals (400m or 800m) on the freshly repainted Copenhagen Drive.

Training at the weekend : should do a distance session. Anyone want to suggest anything ?

Racing at the weekend : None close.

Racing during the week : At 6:40 pm on Wednesday, a 3000m race in the BMC / Cambridge Harriers event at Sutcliffe Park, Eltham.

Week commencing 8 July 2019

Training this week : on Monday, 10k-ish fartlek. On Wednesday, on track for warmup, drills, agility/balance/co-ordination, and 200m intervals. Normal track fee applies. No props required for agility/balance/co-ordination work. If the weather’s bad,  the plan will change.

Racing at the weekend : at 12:30 on Sunday, the BMAF 20k Championships race, at Coventry – which is also the Midlands Championship race. Closing date for entries is Wednesday, entry form here. And at Kingsmeadow, Kingston, a 3000m race in the Veterans AC Championships, also on Sunday.

Racing during the week : Two races in London on Tuesday : at 7 pm a 5 mile race in Battersea Park in the Vets AC Summer series, and at 8:30 a 3000m race at Ashton Playing Fields in the Woodford Tuesday Walks series.

Congratulations to Callum Wilkinson and Heather Lewis, above, National 20k champions at Leeds on Sunday !

Training this week : on Monday, 10k-ish easy or fartlek. On Wednesday, on track for warmup, drills, agility/balance/co-ordination, and 200m intervals. Normal track fee applies. No props required for agility/balance/co-ordination work. If the weather’s bad,  the plan will change.

Training at the weekend : If not racing, should consider a distance session. Maybe on Friday ?

Racing at the weekend : Two possibilities on Saturday within reasonable travelling distance : firstly, the BMAF T&F Inter-Area Match at Coventry, with a 3000m walk. You will need to be selected, and if you have been, you will know and will have been sent a timetable. Secondly, open development races at Lewes, Sussex, at midday.

Racing during the week : 2000m races in various Masters League meetings – Peterborough on Monday, Bedford, Chelmsford, Burton-on-Trent, Rugby, and Stratford-on-Avon on Wednesday.

Week commencing 24 June 2019

Training this week : on Monday, 10k-ish fartlek. On Wednesday, threshold work on laps of the estate.

Training at the weekend : If not racing, should consider a distance session. Maybe on Friday ?

Racing at the weekend : Two big races on Sunday : at 09:30 in Leeds, the British Grand Prix 20k race, which includes the National Championships, the World Championships trials, and the Southern RWA Championships. More details here, entries close on WEDNESDAY. Also  two support races, a 10k at 9:30 and a 3k race at 11:45. Standards apply to the 20k and 10k, and it looks like entries have now closed for the 3k. And at  11 am at Abbey Park, Leicester, the Jim Sharlott 10k, which is also the BMAF championship race. Also a 2k support race at 12:40. More details here, entries close on TUESDAY.

Racing during the week : two possibilities on Monday, a 1000m in Colchester and a 2000m Vets League race at Battersea Park.

Racing at the weekend : Several races but the only Open one on the British mainland is the Jack Fitzgerald Memorial event Crawley, Sussex, with 3 and 6 mile races. Details here.
