Overall situation : Up to Tuesday, training and coaching remain permitted with 2 people together only. England Athletics’ current guidance is here and the government’s guidance on travel for exercise is here. I would argue that travelling to train with another person is necessary if the alternative is to exercise alone, in the dark, on country roads. From Wednesday, we return to the rules for Tier 2 areas, which permit group training and permit over 6 in the group in a Covid-secure environment, which we are. The England Athletics guidance applicable from Wednesday is here.
Up to Tuesday all tracks, gyms and leisure centres are closed. White Horse Leisure Centre have announced reopening of many facilities on Wednesday. At the beginning of November, Tilsley Park announced their intention to reopen on Thursday.
Training this week : On Monday, the usual three options.
- Personally, I’m available for one-to-one coaching. Let’s make our availability known on the WhatsApp group, and if there’s an even number you can pair up to do something suitable for each, if there’s an odd number I’m available to coach anyone (single person) who wants.
- Or, make arrangements with one other person to meet up and do training that suits you both at some other time
- Or, train or exercise on your own if you can do so safely. Don’t forget home exercising for strength and flexibility.
On Wednesday, we can meet as a group again, but not at Tilsley Park. I suggest meeting at the usual time at Long Furlong Community Centre Car Park for a relatively easy social 8 or 10k walk.
At the weekend we should also do a daylight distance session. Any suggestions ?
Don’t forget high-visibility clothing and lights if you have them. All hygiene and social distancing requirements continue to apply.
Racing this week : Helen’s 2k Virtual League continues. Submit your 2k time on her posts in the Racewalking Facebook page here by 6 pm on Wednesday – if you’re not on Facebook let me know your time and I’ll submit it for you. Use Strava or GPS or similar, or a treadmill, to get reasonably accurate times and distances.
