Training this week : on Monday, fartlek session of 10-11k. On Wednesday, on track for drills, agility/balance/co-ordination, and sprints. Normal track fee applies. For agility/balance/co-ordination, please bring a small ball, anything from a tennis ball to one about 20cm/8 inches in diameter. However if the weather is too bad for track work we’ll do threshold work on laps of the estate. Remember the hi-viz clothing !

Training at the weekend : if not racing, should do a distance session in the daylight. Is 9 am on Friday OK again ?

Racing at the weekend : At Eltham, South London, at 1 pm on Saturday, the RWA Inter-Area match, plus young athletes’ races. The RWA Inter-Area is by selection only, and you will know if you’ve been selected.

Racing at the weekend : A busy weekend with the traditional European season-opener at Lugano, Switzerland, racing on the Isle of Man, and the big 24-hour race at Chateau Thierry, France. But the only open races within reasonable travelling distance are the Slater Bryce Memorial races on the track at Horsham, Sussex, starting at 11 am on Saturday. Distance for seniors is 10,000m .

Good performances by the three athletes with Oxfordshire links in the England Athletics 10k Championships in Coventry on Sunday – Gemma 2nd in 49:04, Maddie 4th in 52:46, Noel 17th in 70:15 !

Training this week : on Monday, easy or fartlek session of 10-11k. On Wednesday, if the weather is good, on the track for warmups, drills, agility/balance/co-ordination and sprints. Usual track fee applies. No props required for the agility/balance/co-ordination work. If the weather’s not good enough for this, then threshold session on laps of the estate. Remember hi-viz clothing !

Racing at the weekend : On Saturday at 1 pm at Gravesend, the Cecil Gittins Memorial walks, over 5k, 10, and 15k. A counter for the Enfield League. And on Sunday at Lee Valley, provisionally at 12:25, the British Masters Indoor Championships walks, over 3000m. You will need to have entered by now.

Racing at the weekend : On Sunday at Coventry, the annual Molly Barnett meeting that hosts the England Athletics 10k Championships. Youngsters’ races start at 12:30, 5k at 1:50, 10k at 2:25. Full details in the ad in the latest Race Walking Record.

Racing at the weekend : The only event on the mainland is the BMAF Inter-Area match at Lee Valley on Sunday, for which you will need to have been selected.

Closing dates : Wednesday is the closing date for the Molly Barnett / England Athletics 10k Championship race at Coventry on 3 March, if you want to be eligible for prizes. More details here.

Congratulations to Maddie Shott, above, once of Oxfordshire, silver in the British Indoor Championships 5000m at Birmingham at the weekend ! A couple of dramatic races, with the cameraman working out how to pick up the drama in time for the men’s race. Viewable here with the walks starting 46 minutes in.

Racing at the weekend : On Saturday at 11:45, at Donkey Lane, the second race in this year’s Enfield League, over 5 miles. Some of us are planning to go ! A few more details in the latest Enfield Walker. On Sunday, Midlands Championship road races over various distances at Stourport – 10k for men, 5k for women, shorter distances for the younger age groups, and it’s likely that guests will be very welcome.

Racing at the weekend : On Saturday, we may have the rescheduled Steyning 15k at 2pm. Two indoors events on Sunday : firstly the British Indoor Championships, at Birmingham, over 5000m, with the women’s race at 1:55pm and the men’s at 2:30. You will need to have been invited. Might be on TV, or livestreamed on the internet. Secondly a 3000m in the Southern Counties Veterans’ AC Championships at Lee Valley, London, but you will need to have entered by now.
