Training Days and Training Camps, Autumn-Winter 2018-2019

Again this autumn, England Athletics are organising a series of weekend Race Walking Training Days around the country, and in February, two Monday-to-Wednesday Training Camps at the National Race Walking Centre in Leeds (to coincide with half-term dates). The Training Days will be broadly similar to the one we attended at Moulton last November. Probably easiest for us are the days at Coventry, Eltham or Aldershot  – none of them clashes with the Abingdon Marathon this year, but on 30 September there’s a potential clash with the SVCAC League Final. All Training Days are 10:30 – 2:30. The full dates are :

  • Saturday 29th September 2018, Training Day, Coventry
  • Sunday 30th September 2018, Training Day, Eltham
  • Saturday 6th October 2018, Training Day, Leeds
  • Sunday 28th October 2018, Training Day, Aldershot
  • Saturday 24th November 2018, Training Day, Coventry
  • Sunday 25th November  2018, Training Day, Eltham
  • 11th-13th February 2019, Training Camp, Leeds
  • 18th-20th February 2019, Training Camp, Leeds

Time to start pencilling one in ? More details, and booking information, will be posted here when they are available.

Congratulations to Gemma, finishing above, second in the England Athletics 20k championships in Leeds. Outside the qualifying time for Berlin, but she was inside it in China earlier this year, so I believe she may still get selected . . .

Training this week : on Monday, easy or fartlek session, depending on fitness and injuries, up to 11k. Plus beginners’ sessions on the track, if required. On Wednesday, warmups, drills and sprints on the track, with the usual track fee. Or easy session if injured.

Training at the weekend : Should do a longer session, if not racing. Any suggestions?

Racing during the week :  no open races.

Racing at the weekend :  Two on Saturday. At 11 am in Leicester, the Jim Sharlott 10k race, also the BMAF 10k road championship event. More details here. Also, a 5000m track race at 11:30 at the Allianz Stadium, London, in the LICC and Enfield League series. More details in the latest Enfield Walker. And on Sunday, 5000m races in the British Athletics Senior Championships at Alexander Stadium. Tough qualifying standards – details here. If you want to watch, remember the discount code GBCHAMPS20 for the online ticket shop.

Closing dates : Monday 25th will be the closing date for the Jim Sharlott 10k race (the BMAF Championship event) in Leicester on Saturday. Also the absolute closing date for the British Championships on Sunday, but the entry process is convoluted and you should have started it by now.
