Racing  : the National 10k on Sunday 2nd September, starting at 2pm, at Hillingdon, West London : details here. The closing date is Tuesday so at this stage anyone wanting to enter had best get a form in the post today and email Peter Marlow [pmarlow@btinternet.com] to let him know it’s coming.

Week commencing 20 August 2012

Technical sessions on the track are always available.

Racing  : best of luck to those doing the Inter-Counties on Saturday. There are two other races that may be of interest, both in London : also on Saturday, there is a 5000m race in the Inter-Club Challenge series at Copthall Barnet. On Sunday there is a 3000m in the Veterans’ Athletic Club Track and Field Championships at Battersea Park.

Closing Dates : 28 August for the National 10k on 2 September. Entries by post ! Details here.

Autumn Championships

With all information now in, it’s time for those who haven’t done so already to consider how they’re going to bring their competitive seasons to a suitable climax ! The options are :

European Veterans and Transplant Championships which some of us are attending currently.

3000m in the Track and Field Inter-Counties at Bedford next Saturday, 25 August. Hopefully the Oxfordshire team is now fully settled with two of the group going.

10k National Championships, at Hillingdon on Sunday 2 September. Also believed to be the Race Walking Inter-Counties this year. Can we field an Oxfordshire team ? Closing date for entries is 28 August.

The Jim Sharlott race at Leicester on Sunday 16 September is now confirmed as the British Masters 10k Championships. Haven’t seen an entry form yet.

National 100 Miles Championships at Colchester over 22-23 September. Also including the National 50k Championships.

Let’s all pick one of these for an inspiring finsh to the season !

Week commencing 13 August 2012

Congratulations to Noel, new PB for 5 miles at Enfield last Tuesday, and to Judy, not far behind in what looks like her first ever 5 miles race, and Steve U, fifth in a higher quality field than usual !

Training from Tilsley Park on Monday 13 August : track session – drills, stability, and 200m repetitions

Training from Tilsley Park on Wednesday 15th : we’ll do some 800s, or those with races coming up can do some other ‘sharpening’ session or a pace familiarisation session, or an easy session as they wish. Or a technical session on the track is also always available.

Racing  : best of luck to those off to the the European Veterans Championships and the European Transplant Games later in the week ! Apart from that, there is a 3000m race at Lee Valley Stadium, London, at 1 pm on Saturday, in the Enfield League series.

Training at the weekend : anyone want to do any, if they’re not racing on Saturday ?

Week commencing 6 August 2012

Congratulations to Noel, first in her age group in the BMAF 10000m yesterday, and to Judy and Steve W, second in their age groups !

Training from Tilsley Park on Monday 6 August and  Wednesday 8 August : with popular races on Sunday and Tuesday it’s expected that most people on either day may not want anything more strenuous than an easy 5-7k. If anyone wants a harder session, we can do laps of the estate at threshold pace, or we can extend the session to 10k. We can decide at the start of each session !

Technical sessions on the track are also always available.

Spectating : Olympic Men’s 50k and Women’s 20k on Saturday of course. Have we all got our viewing and travel plans in order ?

Racing during the week : 3 and 5 mile races from the QE2 Stadium in Enfield, London, at 1 pm on Tuesday, for those that can get there. An Olympic Friendship Walk organised by the Enfield League. The races are subject to a maximum entry and at this stage anyone interested should contact randjwallwork@btinternet.com to confirm places are available.
