Training during the week :  on  Bank Holiday Monday, 10k-ish fartlek, plus beginners sessions on the track if required. Tllsley Park is fully open.On Wednesday, track session for everybody. Normal track fees will apply.

Training at the weekend : if not racing, should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  On Sunday, the final of the SCVAC T&F League at Ashford, Kent. Nothing else on the mainland.

Racing during the week : Nothing. Next reasonably accessible walk, is a 3000m at Ashton Playing Fields, London, a week on Tuesday.

Training at the weekend : if not racing, should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  On Saturday at 14:05, at Kingsmeadow, Kingston-upon-Thames, the 3000m race in the the Veterans AC and Southern Counties Vets AC joint championship meeting. You will need to have entered by now. On Sunday at 10 am, for the under-17s, the England Athletics U15 / U17 championships, 3000m for the U15s, 5000m for the U17s, but you will need to have entered by now (in the case of some of us, many years ago.) Also, at 10:30, a one-mile race in Southend.

Racing during the week : On Tuesday at 7 pm, a 5 mile race at Battersea Park in the Vets AC series.

Exciting but mixed day on The Mall on Sunday – no luck for Tom or Dom, solid work from Callum and Bethan, gutsy work from Gemma but a break in her string of PBs over 20k.

Training during the week :  on  Monday, 10k-ish fartlek. On Wednesday, threshold session on laps of the estate. Plus beginners sessions on the track if required – normal track fee will apply.

Training at the weekend : if not racing, should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  On Saturday at Crystal Palace, the SEAA T&F Championships over 5000m. You will need to have entered by now, and if you have, you have probably been sent the timetable.

Racing during the week : Nothing anywhere close.

World Championships Week

Training during the week :  on  Monday, 10k-ish fartlek or recovery. Plus beginners sessions on the track if required. On Wednesday, track session for everyone – normal track fee will apply.

Training at the weekend : if not racing (you will know whether this means you), should do a distance session. Any suggestions ?

Racing at the weekend :  No open races because of course on Sunday, the walks events in the IAAF World Championships take place in The Mall, London. 50k (men and women) starts at 7:45 am, 20k women (with Oxfordshire interest of course) starts at 12:20, 20k men (where there is possibly Britain’s best medal chance) at 2:20 pm. Free to spectators.

Racing during the week : on Wednesday at mid-day, the ‘Enfield Friendship Walks’ organised by Ron Wallwork to tie in with the World Championships. Races of 1 mile, 3 miles and 5 miles, at Queen Elizabeth II stadium, Donkey Lane, Enfield. Full details on the Enfield League website.

Festival of Race Walking, Hillingdon, Sunday 1 October

The Festival of Race Walking, which we have been to in the past, is set to return to Hillingdon on Sunday 1 October, starting at 10:30. 20k and 10k races for seniors, standard distances of 5k and below for juniors. No championships, but a high standard is likely as the 20k is a qualifying race for a number of events including the Commonwealth Games next year.
